Matcha bowls are used to drink matcha, a fine powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves. It is traditionally prepared by whisking the tea with hot water in a bowl called chawan or o-chawan. The bowl is then held up to the drinker's mouth where it is poured into their mouth and consumed.
